Stefanie Smith Obituary

Stefanie R. Smith, 41 of Danville, IN, passed away unexpectedly in Grand Turk, on February 28, 2024.  The following is a tribute written by her loving family.

Stefanie Robin Smith (Volz) was born November 24, 1982, to her parents, Mike Volz & Robbie Richmond at Hendricks County Hospital as the first girl to the family already with two older brothers. Along the way the family grew to include a total of four brothers, a stepbrother and stepsister along with stepmother, Kim Volz, and stepfather, Tom Richmond. Stefanie grew up in the Tri-West school system where she excelled in her academics. She was very book smart. She would frequently fret taking tests, telling everyone that she was going to fail, only to ace it pretty much every single time. Stef also excelled in competition whether it be on the soccer field or softball diamond but also as a Hendricks County Champion in cheerleading. It is there where she forged lifelong friendships with best friends Kristi, Cassie, and Emilee, affectionately known as “The Queen Bees”.  After high school, Stefanie’s collegiate endeavors took her to IUPUI where she graduated with honors from IUPUI in the radiology program. She parlayed that degree into various positions at Wishard Hospital, Hendricks County Hospital, and OrthoIndy, not only gaining work colleagues but great friends as well. Stef loved many things. She loved her family and friends. She was often the “social director” encouraging others to come out for dinner with her or to come over to Dad & Kim’s for intense games of pool volleyball. Stef was also the family's constant communicator talking/texting to her parents daily and sending out texts to all family members & friends just to see how they were doing. After her family and friends, Stef’s love list is long. These included working out, country music (don’t let her get a hold of your radio as it would get turned to a country station and remain there), ranch dressing and cheese sauce, extra crispy pillow tags, Notre Dame football, Dateline, Carb Day, a clean home, her dogs Buster and the mischievous Millie Rae, making friends any and everywhere she went, boating out on the lake, and being a great aunt to her seven nieces and five nephews. But Stefanie’s greatest love was being a mother to her children, Coen Carter and Macee Jo. She was so proud of the people they have become. Passing a driver’s test, getting accepted into college, holding down jobs while doing well in school, winning scholarships, competitions and games. No matter what it was, Stef was always the kids’ biggest cheerleader and so proud of them. Stef was a born teacher and coach. Whether it be t-ball / softball or cheerleading, she took pride in coaching not only Macee but others as well. With Coen, she was a football team mom and a member of the Tri-West Quarterback Club. She hosted countless sleepovers and friend get-togethers at her home. The kids were her life and through them Stefanie will live on.
