Shirley Ann Coleman Burnell Obituary

Shirley Ann Coleman Burnell, 88 of Danville, Indiana, went home to be with the Good Lord, November 25, 2023.

Shirley gave her heart to Jesus Christ at an early age and continued to practice her faith throughout her life. She was an active member of Whitestone Christian Church.

Shirley had many roles in her life including being a Homemaker and a Real Estate Agent for Lawson and Co. in Danville IN, but her favorite role was being a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Robert Burnell, a loving mother to her three wonderful sons, Bryan (Vicki) Coleman, Bradley (Gayle) Coleman, and Bernie Coleman, and bonus children, Doug (Beth) Burnell, David (Brenda) Burnell, Donna (Jack) Jones. She adored her grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Coleman and Carissa (Stephan) Coleman Wilson, and bonus grandchildren, Brian (Miriah) Burnell, Dan Burnell, Elisabeth (Will) Morgan, Benjamin and Jacob Jones, Nick Rutherford, Justin (Katie) Rutherford, and Ashley (Matt) Johnson, and being an aunt to her niece, Lynn (BJ) Huffman.

She cherished time with her great-grandchildren, Robert and Charlotte Coleman and bonus great-grandchildren, Bretta and Adaline Burnell, Kelley Morgan, Rylan Rinlee Johnson, Lily Rutherford, and Kinsley, Tessa, and Harlow Rutherford.

Shirley was a Homemaker with Modern Homemakers. She enjoyed sewing, birdwatching, gardening, crafting, playing cards with good friends, and baking treats with her grandchildren. She had a tender and kind personality and greeted everyone she knew with a caring hug. She always had a handmade surprise every Christmas for all the Coleman and Burnell women. She enjoyed carrying on her family’s tradition of frying oysters during the holidays. She was a farm girl at heart and enjoyed being a part of the Hendricks County Antique Tractor Club. She attended the county fair every year and cherished seeing all of her grandchildren’s livestock shows and 4-H projects.

Shirley was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Deborah Ann Coleman; brother, Richard “Julian” (Emma Ruth) Smith; and her loving parents.
