Kevin's life story:

Samuel Kevin Dotson 62 years old, Brownsburg Indiana

Born February 8, 1960, in Winchester, Tennessee

Kevin attended and played baseball for Franklin County High School in Tennessee. He received a baseball scholarship and played at Motlow College. He then went on to play for Memphis State on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. He was drafted into Minor League Baseball and was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers Association in 1983.

Kevin worked at Arvey/Xpedx Paper for 27 years as Director of Store Operations, winning “Store of the Year” repeatedly as Store Manager, several “District of the Year” awards, and finally the top “Region of the Year”. He spent the last six years in the roofing business winning several “Salesman of the Year” awards. This year, he started Indy Rooftops with his oldest son, Mitchel.  Kevin and his wife, Lara, coached their daughter, Holland, in the Brownsburg Girls Fastpitch League, winning all three seasons played. Kevin enjoyed mentoring young athletes, helping them build fundamentals of the game. As Kevin always said, “If you can’t win, then don’t play.  You play to win!”

Kevin played in the Indiana Baseball League for 31 years. His favorite position was Catcher. He served on their Director’s Board and continued in the league as an active umpire and player.

Kevin enjoyed the outdoors and having fires by the woods and riding motorcycles with his children.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Sammy Dotson, and his mother, JoAnn Sisk Dotson.  He is survived by his wife, Lara; their sons, Mitchel and Luke; their daughter, Holland; his sisters, Kristi Griffin of Dechert, TN and Karla McKinney of Maryville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by anyone who knew him through the outlets of work and baseball that shared it with him.

Kevin died of a sudden heart attack on the morning of September 10th, 2022.  Kevin took pride in his health and never missed a day of work. Because of his sudden death, his family would like to encourage everyone, both men and women, to get a heart scan today.  Please do not wait! Do it for your loved ones!
