Karen K. Williams

Karen K. Williams, 75, of North Salem, Indiana, passed away at her home on January 27, 2023.  Karen “Katie” was born on July 23, 1947 in Sullivan, Indiana to George and Juanita (Nixon) Shoptaw.  She graduated from Lizton High School in 1965 and began work at State Bank of Lizton after graduation.  This is where she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Williams.  They were married on March 1, 1969 until his death in 2001.  They owned and operated a cattle/crop farm in North Salem where she worked fields, did the books, ran grain trucks and even found time to bring dinner to the fields. 

After staying home with her two children, she returned to work at what is now PNC Bank where she retired.  After retiring, she couldn’t sit at home and needed to be around people, she worked a few years with North Salem State Bank.   After leaving North Salem,  she began working part-time at Lowes in Brownsburg, where she met a lot of wonderful co-workers and customers who had become friends.   

Karen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Deb Shoptaw of Indianapolis; a son, Rob Williams of North Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jason Hankins of North Salem; and two grandchildren, Kara and Kaden Hankins who loved their Mimi dearly.   

Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Williams, her parents, George and Juanita Shoptaw and an infant son, Joseph Robert Williams. 

Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Eric MD Bell Funeral Home of Pittsboro, where friends and family will gather from 11 am, until the time of services. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Fairview Cemetery, North Salem, IN following the service.
