John R. Brown

John Robert Brown of Lizton, IN went to be with Jesus on August 27, 2020.  He was a successful farmer and businessman, a loving husband and father, and a good friend to many.  He was born on September 6, 1928 to Fern and N.C. Brown.  He attended Culver Military Academy and graduated from Purdue University with a mechanical engineering degree.  He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot during the Korean War.  He met his wife Jeri on a blind date and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.  He had a passion for the land, he was an accomplished horseman and loved to play games with family and friends.  He and Jeri enjoyed traveling, which took him to six continents, including a ride on a camel in Egypt.  He was a director of Lizton Financial Corporation and State Bank of Lizton for 31 years, and served as Chairman of the Board for 20 years.  He was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church and served there in various positions.

John had a wonderful sense of humor, was humble and kind and a role model for everyone.  His greatest love was for his family.  He is survived by his wife, Jeri; daughters Becky and husband John, Beth and husband Ken; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his infant son, Gregory Alan, and 2 sisters, Winifred and Rosebud. 

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gregory Alan Brown scholarship fund, c/o Hendricks County Foundation, or The Pittsboro Christian Church.

Friends and family will gather on Monday, August 31,2020 at the funeral home from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.
