Jimmie Lee Carlton, age 69, of Pittsboro, peacefully passed away on May 26, 2021. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana on April 17, 1952, the son of Ray and Norma (Whitaker) Carlton.
Jimmie began his career in the family business of excavating with his father and brother, eventually branching out on his own as the owner of Jim Carlton Excavating. He later owned and operated Jim’s Clermont Plastic Pipe. Once retiring in Jan 2016, Jimmie enjoyed winters in Florida, fishing with grandkids and regular family cookouts. His hobbies were riding motorcycles, hunting, watching westerns, auto racing and car shows.
Jimmie will fondly be remembered for his heart of gold, abundant generosity, unwavering loyalty to those he loved and an infectious smile that lit up the world around him. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Scharbrough) Carlton; mother, Norma (Whitaker) Carlton; daughters, Angel (Brian) Pittman and Nancy Carlton; grandchildren Brittany (Zack King) Carlton, Bryce Dickey and Briana Pittman; great-grandchildren Ellyana, Leah, Jocelyn, Lathan and Bella; siblings, Doris Ragsdale, Donald (Janet) Carlton & Anita (David) Marsh and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Carlton and brother-in-law Jim Ragsdale.
Services will be held at Eric M.D. Bell funeral home on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with visitation from 11-1 and funeral services immediately following. Interment will be at the K of P Cemetery, Lizton, Indiana. Out of an abundance of caution for those who are of advanced age and autoimmune deficiencies, it is requested that all who attend the visitation and funeral wear masks while indoors.
