Harry Kieninger Obituary

Harry Andrew Kieninger II, 75 of Indianapolis, Indiana, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2021.  Harry was born on June 9, 1946 in Indianapolis to Harry Andrew and Eva Mae (Wilson) Kieninger.  He faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968.  He served in Vietnam as a Combat Medic and was awarded the Purple Heart for his incredible bravery.  In 1999, Harry wrote a book about his experiences in Vietnam entitled When Can We Come Home?  On March 22, 1969, he married the love of his life, Janet (Walls) Kieninger.  Aside from being an author, Harry was also a gifted guitarist and sang Gospel and Country music.  He loved entertaining family and friends, especially with his impersonation of his favorite singer, Elvis Presley.  He retired from Cra-Wal Container after 27 years of service.  Harry loved God and his family and friends.  He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and was a gentle, kind man who believed in the dignity of all of God’s Creation. 

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Kieninger and Donald Kieninger, and his sisters, Carolyn McCormick and Janice Kieninger. 

Harry is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janet Kieninger; his children, Dawn Jenkins (husband Richard Szepski) and Tina Kieninger; his grandchildren, Montana Jenkins, Madison Jenkins, and Skyler Mack; and his sister, Sharon Kieninger Rubottom. 

A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held for Harry at Christ Church Cathedral on The Circle in downtown Indianapolis on December 15, 2021 beginning at 10:30 am.  All are encouraged to share thoughts, prayers, and memories with Harry’s family on his memorial page found on the funeral home’s website, www.ericmdbellfuneralhome.com .
