Brenda McKinney

Brenda (Haggard) McKinney, Lizton, IN, died peacefully on June 4, 2021 at the age of 70 at IU Health Hospital. Brenda was born on September 6, 1950 in Danville, KY. She was born into a very loving and Christ-filled family that soon found roots in Pittsboro, IN, where she and her brother, Ronald, were raised by George and Arlie Haggard. Upon graduation from Pittsboro High School in 1968, she completed cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for a short time. Brenda married John McKinney in 1970 at Corinth Christian Church in Brownsburg, IN and had two children, Jeremy McKinney and Stefany (McKinney) Deckard. For several years she taught piano lessons and lead the church choir, and eventually retired from the State Bank of Lizton after 33 years of dedicated service. Brenda loved music, reading, crossword puzzles, and putting Thomas Kinkaid jigsaw puzzles together. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren--Adam, Benjamin, Victoria, and Jonathan—and babysat them every chance she had. She enjoyed spending the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with those that knew her best: Sisters-in-laws Rose (Dave) Tolbert, Judy Mayo, Ella Vaughn, Gerry (Ronald) Haggard; her nieces, Lisa (Bill) Myers, Tina Haines, Anne Mayo, Angie Meacham, and nephew, Robert Haggard. Brenda’s laugh, quick wit, sarcasm, and hugs will be fondly remembered, but it is her trustworthiness when you needed someone to listen to your deepest thoughts that will be missed the most. She was a friend to all. Brenda is survived by her dedicated husband of 51 years, John McKinney, her two children, and her four grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.  Brenda will be laid to rest in K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana following the funeral service.  Immediately following the burial, a Celebration of Life will be held at Lizton Lions Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
