Bill “Burky” Burkhard

Bill “Burky” Burkhard 64 of Lizton, IN passed away unexpectedly in his home on October 11, 2022.

The following life story was written by his loving family.

Bill was born April 1, 1958, to Frank and Linda (Thomas) Burkhard. Bill was raised in Indianapolis attending school at St Joseph until Jr. High at South Wayne & Ben Davis, before moving to Lizton and graduating from Tri-West High School in 1976.

Bill worked for Roadway, James H. Drew Company, and Burkhard & Son Construction during which time he served as a volunteer for the Lizton Union Township Fire Department for many years before joining Pike Township Fire Department in 1983 where he proudly served as a Firefighter, EMT, and at one time Paramedic till his retirement in 2013. It was there he assumed the identity of “Burky”, known well to all as he served as Union President for Pike’s Local 2656 before it joined IFD Local 416 where he served as Treasurer and Vice President before his retirement. 

Bill Married Elaine Neff August 6, 1989, and together they spent their time raising kids, traveling the United States, attending NASCAR races and hanging out with friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine; his children, Heather (Steve) Woods, Dave Brunes, Jesse (Summer) Burkhard and Amanda Brunes; his grandchildren, Christian, Cody, Savannah, Gaige, Alexis, Wylie, Au’bree, Brandt, Bristol and Rhett; his mother, Linda Burkhard and mother-in-law, Dianne Neff; his siblings, David (Jo Anne) Burkhard and Susan (Dave) Klusman; as well as his several nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Frank Burkhard, and father-in-law, Joe Neff

Friends and family will gather on Monday, October 17, 2022, from 11 am to 1 pm, with the funeral service to immediately follow.
