Thomas George Dirig

Mr. Thomas G. Dirig, 82, of Brownsburg and formerly of Marion, Indiana, passed away on September 20, 2026, at Hendricks Regional Health.

Tom was born and raised in Fort Wayne to the late John Dirig and Ruth (Alter) Dirig. He attended St. Jude Elementary School and Central Catholic High School. During high school, he worked at Atz's Ice Cream Parlor, where he met his wife, Patricia (Givens) Dirig. They were married for 46 years until her passing in July 2011. Tom graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.

Tom and Pat eventually settled in Marion, Indiana, with their three children (David, Jef, and Tracey). As a registered pharmacist, he served as the President of the Grant County Pharmacists Association for one year during his professional career. While living in Marion, he first owned his own pharmacy (Kem View Pharmacy). Later, he owned his own drug store in Fairmount, Indiana (Fairmount Family Pharmacy – FFP) from 1981 to 1993. Upon closing his drug store, he built a company offering short-term pharmacist coverage for retail, hospital, and long-term care consulting.

Though a pharmacist by trade, he maintained a hobby farm with cows and chickens. Later in retirement, he kept rabbits for a few years. He always wanted to be a pilot, but unfortunately, a heart attack in retirement prevented him from achieving his pilot's license. However, he greatly enjoyed flying remote-controlled airplanes.

In 2025, he made the big decision to downsize. He sold his house in Marion and moved to an apartment in Brownsburg, Indiana. During his short time in Brownsburg, he built a workbench with his son-in-law, Eric. He loved woodworking and refinished a few pieces of furniture. Throughout his life, he always had a project and kept busy.

Survivors include his son, David (Midori) Dirig, Corona, California; daughter, Tracey (Eric) Deutsch, Pittsboro, Indiana; brothers, Richard Dirig, Auburn, Indiana, Gerald (Barb M.) Dirig, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Robert (Sue) Dirig, Boise, Idaho; sister, Marilyn (Scott) Kopecky, Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Barb E. Dirig; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Dirig (sons of Jef) and Alexander and Samantha Deutsch (children of Tracey).

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Dirig; wife, Patricia D. Dirig; sister, Margaret (Albert) Stookey; brother, Daniel Dirig; sisters-in-law, Becky Dirig and Patricia E. Dirig; and son, Jef Dirig.

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Boy Scouts Hall, located at 8315 W. Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. The gathering will conclude with a time of shared remembrance starting at 2:00 PM.

Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hendricks County. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
