Stephen Dale Maple,76, from Pittsboro, Indiana, returned to God on August 18th, 2025, after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born February 18, 1949, in Columbus, Indiana, to William Kenneth and Nellie Cameron Maple. Steve graduated from North Vernon High School in 1967 and Purdue University in 1972. He married Sharon Witte on August 19, 1973, and they were longtime members of First Baptist Church, Kokomo, and more recently attended Pittsboro United Methodist. Steve was a long-term member of Kiwanis International and served as a past Indiana Kiwanis Lt. Governor. Through the years, Steve worked in a variety of capacities, careers and roles including Director for Pizza Hut, Supervisor for Allison Transmission, and most recently he retired as the Building Commissioner for the Town of Pittsboro. No matter his role, he was undoubtedly a hard worker and was always passionate about helping others. Aside from work, he enjoyed planting flowers, spending time with family and attending sporting events – especially rooting for his Purdue Boilermakers. Most notably, Steve’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured time with his grandkids the most and loved being at every possible event cheering them on.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Nellie; siblings, David Maple (Columbus, IN), James Maple (Baytown, TX) and Mary Shaw (Prospect, KY), who he will meet again in Heaven, and is survived by his wife, Sharon; siblings, Louise Cummings (LaPort, IN), June Maple (Greenfield, IN) and Mike Maple (Louisville, KY); sisters-in-law, Betty Maple (Baytown, TX) and Cheryl (Marty) McGinley (Lebanon, IN); brother-in-law, Ron Shaw (Louisville, KY); three children, Jenny (Darrell) Thompson (Corsicana, TX), Matt (Meghan) Maple (Zionsville, IN) and Kerri (Brandon) Farmer (Mooresville, IN); and six grandchildren, Liam Farmer, Alyson Maple, Isabel Farmer, Braden Maple, Samantha Thompson, Lucas Farmer; and countless other relatives and friends who knew Steve.
