Sherry Purcell

Sherry (Dixon) Purcell, 79, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026. Raised in Letcher County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Louise Dixon and Elmer Dixon Jr.

Sherry lived in Brownsburg with her husband, Bill, and their son, William, before later building a home in Pittsboro. Her home was a cherished gathering place for family—a place where everyone felt welcome and lasting memories were made. After Bill’s passing in 1999, she worked at Avon Community School Corporation, forming lifelong friendships before retiring in 2008.

She enjoyed baking, tending her yard, reading her Bible, talking on the phone with her sister, Beverly, and relaxing with her dog, Bree. Above all, she cherished time with friends and family, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion.

Sherry never knew a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel special. With a generous heart and spirited personality, she gave freely of her time, help, and love, expecting nothing in return. Her genuine kindness and unforgettable hugs left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She was a cherished Mamaw to her granddaughter, Shelbi Spurgeon, and great-granddaughters, Hayden and Avery Spurgeon, who survive her, along with her sister, Beverly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Purcell, and her son, William Purcell, who passed away in 2025.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Brownsburg Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Her family will carry her love and the memories they shared with them always.
