The following is an obituary written by Bob’s loving family.
Robert Paul Austin, Jr. (Bob) passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was born March 25, 1951, to Robert Paul Austin Sr. (deceased) and Marguerite M. Austin (deceased) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bob was the third of four children born to Paul and Margie.
Bob grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He met his wife at a strip pit known as the “Blue Hole” in Clermont, Indiana and later married in July of 1970. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply and was a steadfast provider.
Bob and Janet had three children, Stacey L. McDowell (David), Kristie D. Donald (Taylor), and Jennifer R. Wasson (Kyle). Bob was blessed with eight grandchildren, Austin Lee, Bryce Hastings, Brianna Rene’, Grace Isabella, Leah Rae (deceased), Ava Mae, Nolan Roy, and Malina Raelynn. Bob was able to spend time with six great-grandchildren before his passing. Bob was adored by his surviving siblings, Paula Austin Pryor (Phil) and Kent Austin, along with seven nieces, two nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Kay Austin.
Bob retired after 30 years from General Motors. He was an avid fan of IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed camping, boating, golfing, and watching Indy and Nascar racing. In his retirement years, you could catch him at Brickers Pub where he met and made a lot of friends. His was known as “Brookville Bob” and “Stickman”. Bob and Janet enjoyed taking trips on their motorcycle.
Bob lived a good life and expressed deep gratitude for the support, thoughts, and prayers he received while navigating his illness. May God bless all who shared in his journey.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana, for visitation from 11 am to 1 pm, with the funeral service honoring Robert's life beginning at 1 pm. Robert will be laid to rest in Lizton K of P Cemetery following the service.
