Larry
Mathew
September 1, 1961 – March 24, 2026
Larry Mathew, 64, of Lizton, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 24, 2026, at his family farm, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 1, 1961, to Wayne and Marilyn Mathew, Larry lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family. On February 14, 1981, he married the love of his life, Marcy Shirrell Mathew. Together, they shared 45 years of marriage, building a life rooted in family, resilience, and lasting memories.
Larry was a proud father to Amber Klauber and Aschley “Mo” Mathew (Lindsey), and a devoted PawPaw to his four grandchildren, Peyton and Hudson Klauber, and Carter and Luke Mathew. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, Chip and JoJo, who were constant companions by his side.
A proud United States Air Force veteran, Larry was known for his strong work ethic, independence, and determination. He spent many years in Springfield, Illinois, working as a lineman for AT&T until his retirement in 2017. Following retirement, he returned to his roots to manage the Wayne J. Mathew Farm, carrying on his father’s legacy. The farm was more than work to Larry; it was where he found peace and purpose.
Larry had a gift for bringing people together, often around food. He was a master of the smoker, known for his brisket and ribs that became the centerpiece of many family gatherings and will be remembered by all who shared a meal with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Marilyn Mathew.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Marcy; his children and grandchildren; his siblings, Gary Mathew, Lorie Mathew, and Lana Cramer (Bob); along with his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless friends and extended family who will deeply miss him.
Larry will be remembered for his strength, his stubborn determination, his unwavering love for his family, and the pride he took in both his work and his land. His legacy of hard work, loyalty, and love will live on in all who knew him.
The Liturgy of the Word service will be held at 11 am, April 11 at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home, where friends are invited to gather with the family from 10 am until the time of the service. Following the service there will be a procession to the family farm in Lizton, where military honors will be rendered and a celebration of his life will follow.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Crown Hill National Cemetery Cremation Annex. Please keep Larry’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
