Kent Richard “Smiley” Brunes was a farmer who loved his life, and always had a smile. Kent went to be with the lord suddenly and unexpectedly on March 3, 2024, at the young age of 63. Kent was born April 21, 1960, in Lebanon, Indiana to Richard Brunes and Martha (Lindley) Brunes. Kent was a 10 year 4-H member. In May of 1978 Kent graduated from Tri-West High School. After graduation Kent pursued his dream of farming. Kent loved every aspect of farming; it was truly his passion. He never minded the hard work, weather, or the work load it took to get everything accomplished that needed done. No matter what problems or struggles he faced throughout his career and life he always brought light to the situation and loved every second of being on the farm. Beginning and throughout his career he farmed with his dad Richard, and brother Kevin.Aside from farming, Kent also worked on sale days at Ted Everett Farm Equipment in Monrovia, IN for several years.
In 1988, Kent met his wife Pam (Hoadley) Brunes. They were inseparable from their first date. They had found their soulmates in each other. Kent and Pam married on September 9th, 1997. In August of 1998 they were blessed with a son, Cody William Brunes. It was one of Kent’s proudest moments to become a father. At a young age it was easily known Cody loved the farm as much as his dad. They went everywhere together and were always together with each other. Kent was thrilled to be able to teach Cody all there was about farming. Kent was so proud when Cody made the decision after college, that he wanted to farm just like his dad did. It brought Kent a lot of joy being able to go to the fields in the spring and fall with his son Cody and brother Kevin. Cody and Kevin both are both going to miss farming with Kent more than anything but are comforted in knowing he is watching over them from above now.
Kent is survived by his wife and soulmate Pam Brunes, his best friend and son Cody Brunes, his mother Martha (Lindley) Brunes, brothers Kevin (Liz) Brunes, and Karson (Penny) Brunes. Uncle Fletcher (Cathy) Brunes, and aunts Wilma Tarman, Mary Jane Bryan, and Martha Jean Brower. Several nieces and nephews, and several best friends that he considered family. He is proceeded in death and now reunited and farming with his dad in heaven Richard Brunes. He also was proceeded in death by uncles Charlie Brunes and Robert Brunes.
