June Lorraine Cain

June Lorraine "Thornsbrough" Cain of Pittsboro, Indiana went to be with our Lord on August 16, 2026, after a short illness. The following is a tribute written by her loving family.

June was born in Danville, Illinois, on April 25, 1936, to the late Ennis and Evelyn "Hughes" Thornsbrough. June was raised along with six siblings in Alvin, Illinois. She was the last of a big and loving family. The cup passes on.

June was a graduate of Rossville High School, where she met and enjoyed cheering for the love of her life and future husband, Jim “Butch” Cain. She was also so very proud when in her junior year of high school, she was nominated for the Corn Queen Contest, and her father, a very successful farmer, contributed corn to try and help her win the title.

June and Jim built an exciting life together. They were married 52 years at the time of Jim’s passing. They finally settled in Pittsboro, Indiana, where they reared four children, Martin H. (Debbie) Cain, Melinda S. (Ron) Frick, Jennifer L. (Mike) Roseboom, and Lorie J. (Bob) Woodall.

They were blessed with five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Tiffany Cain (Jason) Cox, Sarah Cain (Joe) Haste, Tylan (Kylie) Thompson, Lacie Woodall (Ross) McKamey, and Anna Warren (David) Lay; Corbin Cox, Mason (Carli) Cox, Evelyn Cox, Brody Haste, Bella Haste, Graylan Thompson, Emma Thompson, Riley Flinn, Emmett McKamey, Brooks McKamey, and Amelia Lay.

June's greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She said, "I was meant to be a mother". She just loved it when her children, grandchildren, and greats would stop by and visit with her.

June had so many talents. She had a beautiful voice and was a versatile singer, but she mostly sang alto. She was so excited when she sang a trio with two of her daughters for church. The song was “Breath of Heaven”. She was also a very gifted seamstress. There was nothing she couldn't sew. She enjoyed dressing her three daughters in matching outfits she had sewn.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a small service, at Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana.

Mom, we love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
