Josephine A. “JoAnn” Lucas, 85, formerly of North Salem, Indiana, peacefully passed away on June 26, 2026, in her Brownsburg home surrounded by her loving family. JoAnn was born February 1, 1941, the daughter of Roy and Julia (Flom) Pierce. She graduated from Franklin Township High School, Class of 1959. She married Dale Eugene “Gene” Lucas on November 27, 1959. Their loving union would last 50 years, with Gene passing in 2009. JoAnn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was also a natural homemaker who “loved to dig in the dirt with her husband!” Aside from gardening both flowers and vegetables, JoAnn enjoyed feeding the birds and was especially fond of hummingbirds. She was a gifted crafter who used her talents in quilting, sewing, and spreading cheer with homemade cards.

In addition to her parents and husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dennis McCarthy.

She is survived by her beloved children, Dale Lucas, Dawn (Brad Dairl) McCarthy, and Michele (Thomas) Barker; and her grandchildren, John McCarthy, Jakob (Aurora) Barker, and Brandon (Grace) Barker.

JoAnn will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in North Salem, Indiana, with a private family ceremony.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society.
