Obituary

James Kevin Kerzee, 54, of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2026. Kevin was born on February 10, 1972 to Maurice and Carolyn Sue Kerzee. He was raised in Bay City, Texas and was a 1990 graduate of Bay City High School where he was a standout swimmer and competed in the UIL Texas State Swimming Championships in 1990. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in Toxicology from Northeast Louisiana University in 1995 while on a swimming scholarship. He then attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where he earned his Doctorate in Toxicology in 2000.

Kevin’s career brought him north to Ohio, Illinois, Washington State, and Indiana. Kevin had a successful career in the field of toxicology with several large pharmaceutical companies. Later in his career, he decided to settle down in Brownsburg, Indiana to be able to spend more time with his children. Kevin then started his own insurance agency, following in his father’s footsteps. His health forced him to retire in 2023.

Kevin loved his three children dearly. His favorite pastime was spending time with all of them and taking them on trips to Texas to see his family and to Disney World. Kevin also loved the outdoors. He grew up in Texas learning to hunt with his dad and brothers. During his childhood in Texas, he developed a passion for nature and spending time outside which he shared with his children every chance he could.

Kevin is survived by his three children, James Hunter Kerzee, Joseph Tyler Kerzee, and Carolyn Kay Belle Kerzee; his mother, Carolyn Sue Barnett of El Campo, Texas; his father, James Maurice Kerzee (Pam) of Mexia, Texas; brothers, Richard L. Kerzee (Linda), and SSG Philip C. Kerzee, USA (Ret.) (Melissa); sister, Carla Kay Barziza (Daniel); nephews Chris Kerzee (Laura), Kyle Kerzee (Melody), Mason Barziza, and C.J Kerzee.; nieces, Bricyn Barziza (Isaac), Hayden Barziza, Reegan Barziza, and Sheila Kerzee; and great-nephews, Matthew Kerzee and Parker Kerzee.
