Avon, Indiana

George Joseph “Jerry” Henderson passed away on April 27, 2024 in Avon, Indiana.  Born on December 18, 1928, he was the son of William A. and Lexi Bernice Henderson.  George attended Tech High School before moving to Pittsboro, where he finished high school.

He served in the U.S. Army, assigned to the motor pool, in the occupation army in Japan following World War II.  Following that, he attended Butler University before starting in the workforce.  George began at Allison but decided the repetitive work wasn't for him.

He leveraged his motor pool experience to start a career in transportation.  George was a freight salesman for several companies in his tenure including Federal Express, ABF, and A & H Transportation.

George married Barbara Ellen Reynolds, daughter of Chester W. and Viola (Stanley) Reynolds, on August 25, 1951.  They had three children, Jeri Suzanne (Henry) Hopkins, Jeffrey D. Henderson, and Brian L. (Debra) Henderson; along with two granddaughters, Lauren (Michael) Jerit and Rachael Henderson; two step granddaughters, Tena Hopkins and Tonya Hopkins; two step great-grandsons, Eli and Evan; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, London, and Kitt Jerit.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

George was a member of the Brownsburg Masonic Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Barbara's Worthy Patron.  He was also a member of the Indianapolis Traffic Club.

Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm.  George will be laid to rest with military honors alongside his beloved wife in Lizton K of P Cemetery following the service.
