Gary Robert Gregory

Gary Robert Gregory, 87, of Eugene, OR, died peacefully in his sleep on November 3, 2025.

He was born on April 14, 1938, to his loving parents, Bob and Margaret Gregory of Pittsboro, IN. He graduated a proud Hoosier from Indiana University in 1962. He proceeded to enlist and serve a proud two years in the United States Army, and retired with an honorable discharge after completing his service.

He proceeded to take over his father’s business, Gregory Furniture, and worked beside his parents in the funeral home that was located in his childhood residence. He married Jayne Wildman, and they had two children together, Teryl Gregory Rupert and Michael Gregory. They both grew up and married Ronald Rupert and Susan Warren Gregory. They each had two beautiful children, Rachel, Sarah, Nicole, and Jacob.

His wild spirt and cowboy heart lead him to Pinedale ,Wyoming, where he met and married Judith Ann Greenhood of San Francisco. Together they had a daughter, Wells Gregory McVay, in 1983, who married Mark McVay, and gave him two more grandchildren, Oscar and Millie Mae.

Gary owned and operated the Ponderosa Lodge, and carried on family tradition by employing Mike and Teri to help maintain the lodge and guide service. He eventually turned in the keys to the lodge and opened a cowboy style fine dining restaurant, McGregor’s Pub, with his wife, Judy. Gary could be found behind the bar, at the grill, or most often talking to every customer that walked in the door and being the most charismatic person in the building.

Opportunity knocked and a move to Eugene, OR opened up a new career selling luxury motorhomes in 1991. His business savvy, iconically white hair, and curmudgeonly disposition, awarded him the loving nickname, “Old Guy”, which stayed with him until the very end. A title beloved enough to have a country western ballad named in his honor.

The RV industry eventually became his retirement, where he and Judy spent 19 years building beloved friendships in Indio, CA at Motorcoach Country Club. He was also a loyal member of Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, OR for over 30 years. Golf was his passion, but the friends he made through it were better than all 14 hole-in-one’s he made in his lifetime.

He was survived by his loving wife, Judy; his three children; six grandchildren; and childhood best friend, Janet Walker. He was an extraordinary son, husband, father, and grandfather. To know him was to love him, and if you didn’t, you at least remembered him!

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a veterans foundation of your choice in honor of Gary’s service in the United States Army, as well as his son Michael’s lifetime service to the United States Navy.

No large memorial is planned as many separate small gatherings are being organized by those who want to honor his memory. However, you can always raise a beer, glass of wine, or shot of your choice in his honor anytime he crosses your mind, which we hope is often.

Gary will be laid to rest in K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana, alongside his parents.
