September 13, 1958, Fred married the love of his life, Iris Tomlinson, and in 1973, they made their home in Pittsboro, IN with their four daughters and have been residents there since. In Fred’s younger years, he was semi-pro archery and State of Indiana archery champion in 1979. Fred and his brother, Sonny, took over ownership of their father’s paint & body supply shop, Arrow Supply Co., for many years. After Arrow Supply, Fred became a bus driver for IndyGo which is where he retired from.
Fred was loved by all who knew him and was known for his “bear hugs.” He was an avid Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, and Indianapolis Pacers fan. He supported his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s sports and racing activities along with being both a softball and football coach. Fred loved fishing and traveled with many family members to Red Lake Ontario, Canada for over a span of forty years to fish for Walleye and Northern Pike but also to visit with Canadian friends as well! In addition, Fred loved spending time with friends and family along with archery, cutting grass, fixing things around the house, and being a HAM radio operator.
Our “Daddy-O” was one-of-a-kind father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a gentle, caring, positive, loving man. He was the epitome of a “Father” figure who was willing to help anyone at any time and ensured his family was always taken care of. He is the last of his legacy and will be greatly missed.
