Ernest "Ernie" Martin

Ernest Robert “Ernie” Martin, 89, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away on May 1, 2026. Born February 28, 1937, he was the seventh son of ten children born to Ewing Robert and Sylvia Laverne (Call) Martin. He married Doris Crick on December 23, 1962, in New Market, Indiana. Following his retirement from a career in accounting, Ernie became a fixture in the community, where he spent his time enjoying Tri-West High School sports and theater productions.

He is survived by his daughter, Rosa Sprout Freeland, and his sister-in-law, Jeanette Martin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Mark Benjamin Sprout, Keegan Robert Sprout (Nic Corrie), Tyler Franklin Sprout (Kristi Smith), and Jonna "JD" Cummings (Bryce), along with seven beloved great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pittsboro One-Room Schoolhouse or the Pittsboro United Methodist Church.
