Douglas West, 97 of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away in his home on April 22, 2025, with loved ones by his side.
Douglas was born on April 30, 1927, to Homer Beauregard and Julia (Aslan) West. He faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Navy before attending and graduating from college. He retired from King Equipment Company of Hendricks County after being a school supplies salesman for many years.
In addition to being a courageous World War II Veteran, Douglas was a talented photographer of birds. He had an uncanny ability to spot birds of all kinds, including owls camouflaged in the treetops. He was also an avid golfer, only taking a break in the winter when he would instead play Snooker. Douglas enjoyed horse racing as well, visiting the racetrack in Florida.
In addition to his parents, Douglas is preceded in death by his siblings, Quinton West, Roger West, and Rachel West.
Douglas is survived by his children, David West and Diane Schuessler; his seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and his three great-great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather for visitation on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana, from 10 am to 11:30 am, with the memorial service honoring Douglas's life beginning at 11:30 am. Douglas will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in North Salem, Indiana, following the memorial service.
