Christopher Stephen “Steve” Chelf
Christopher Stephen (Steve) Chelf, 73, passed away on March 30, 2026. Steve was born on August 25, 1952, to Eugene and Mary Jane Chelf. After graduating from Brownsburg High School, he went on to study Journalism at Butler University. While in college, he worked part-time as a deli manager at Preston Safeway, where he met the love of his life, Jennifer Chelf (née Moran). They were married from 1978 until her passing in 2022. Following his father's death, Steve took over the family tax practice, Chelf & Associates, which he operated from 1988 until his own passing.
Steve was a passionate film buff who meticulously maintained a written log of every film he saw in theaters from 1965 through 2025. His favorite filmmakers included Sam Peckinpah, Alfred Hitchcock, and Quentin Tarantino, and his favorite actor was Jack Nicholson. He was also an avid reader who loved chess, backgammon, and enjoying a cold beer on a warm summer evening. In his later years, what he enjoyed most was spending time with his children and his granddaughter.
Steve was preceded in death by his son, Eric Robert Chelf; his parents; his wife, Jennifer; and two of his siblings. He is survived by his son, Joshua Chelf; his daughter, Elaine (Jesse) Radford; his granddaughter, Guinevere Radford; and his remaining siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home. All are encouraged to share thoughts, prayers, and memories with his family on his memorial page found on the funeral home’s website at www.ericmdbellfuneralhome.com.
