Cathy Vandivier

September 15, 1947 — December 25, 2025

Pittsboro, Indiana

Mary Cathleen “Cathy” Vandivier, a lifelong pillar of the Pittsboro community, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 15, 1947, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, she was the cherished daughter of Russell and Mary Scott. Cathy was a graduate of Pittsboro High School and remained a devoted resident of her beloved hometown for nearly all of her seventy-eight years.

A woman of remarkable energy and a tireless work ethic, Cathy balanced multiple professional roles with grace. As a Master Cosmetologist, she was deeply dedicated to her craft, using her talents in hair and cosmetics to ensure that every lady she served looked and felt truly wonderful. Alongside her career as a beautician, she committed thirty years of service to General Motors Truck and Bus, where she retired in 2002.

Her retirement only marked the beginning of a new chapter of service to the town she loved. Cathy followed her passion for the outdoors by becoming the Superintendent of Pittsboro Parks and Recreation. She also shared her experience as a substitute teacher for the Northwest School Corporation and was a longtime member of the Pittsboro Christian Church, where she could often be found outdoors meticulously maintaining the church grounds.

For many years, Cathy was an integral part of the funeral home family, serving at the David A. Hall Funeral Home and continuing her dedicated service as it became the Eric MD Bell Funeral Home. She was a deeply loved member of the team and a dear friend who was held in the highest regard. Cathy provided a unique comfort to the community by ensuring that all ladies looked their absolute finest, allowing families to have a beautiful and dignified final memory as they said their farewells. She was so very loved by the family at the funeral home, who were honored by the special bond they shared with her.

Cathy was an accomplished athlete who found great joy in bowling and golf. She was never happier than when she was outside, and she took immense pride in her yard work, tending to her home with the same care she gave to her community. Above all, Cathy loved her small family with all her heart. She was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her son, Scott Vandivier, and his wife, Carrie; her two grandsons, Owen and Gavin Vandivier; her brother, Jeff Scott; and her nephew, Adam Scott, along with his wife, Andrea, and their daughter, Eve.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Eric MD Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at the funeral home starting at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Following the funeral, Cathy will be laid to rest in the Lizton K of P Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tri-West Dollars for Scholars program or the Hendricks County Humane Society. Their thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated during this difficult time of loss.
