Catherine Louise Smith

Catherine Louise (Stewart) Smith, of Lizton, Indiana, passed away on October 30, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on May 31, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Cathy was the daughter of John “Nick” Stewart and Lucille “Lucy” Stewart. She graduated from North Salem High School in 1973 and continued her education at Speedway Academy of Cosmetology, graduating in 1974.

On July 17, 1976, Cathy married Ted Smith. Together, they built a life centered around friends and family, which provided decades of countless memories. Their marriage was a testament to a lifetime of partnership and the adventures they shared along the way.

Cathy was a proud mother of her three sons: Ron (Melissa), Eric (Shelly), and Brad (Andi). Her family continued to grow with the addition of her four grandchildren: Jake, Coen, Macee, and Benjamin. Over the years, she enjoyed watching her boys and grandchildren compete from their early elementary years through high school. There was nothing quite like being in the stands, cheering them on and sharing in their victories, challenges, and memories.

If Cathy wasn't spending time with family, chances were she was enjoying the outdoors. She loved gardening and finding beauty in the simple things around her. But perhaps no place held a more special spot in her heart than Raccoon Lake in Rockville, Indiana, where she spent the majority of her free time beginning in 1982. The lake became a second home and the backdrop for decades of treasured memories. She loved late nights gathered around the campfire, leisurely golf cart rides, and relaxing days out on the boat. Those who knew her can appreciate that some of life's best moments weren't found in a schedule or a special occasion, but in a beautiful day at the lake, good company, and time spent together.

Though she will be missed, her spirit will live on in family gatherings, stories shared around a campfire, future days at the lake, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home.
