April Haarbauer (née Williams), 40, of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on February 16, 2026. A devoted mother, wife, and friend, April spent her life ensuring those around her were cared for and empowered to live their best lives.
Born in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky to Daryl and Shawn Williams, April grew up with a sharp mind and a protective heart. She carried that drive to Purdue University, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2007. It was during her college years, on the mats of a Tae Kwon Do class, that she met her husband, James. They were married on July 9, 2011, beginning a partnership defined by shared adventures and deep devotion.
April was a woman of delightful contradictions: she was famously stubborn and refreshingly blunt, yet she possessed an infinite well of empathy. She was a natural caregiver who found joy in the company of children and animals, most notably her loyal dogs, Thor and Loki.
Her imagination was a force of nature. An avid gamer and a staple at Gen Con every year, April loved the art of storytelling. Whether she was navigating a tabletop RPG, getting lost in a K-Drama, or exploring a digital world, she had a unique gift for giving characters life and finding the heart in every narrative. To April, friends were not just acquaintances; they were chosen family.
Her greatest legacy, however, is her son, Chance, born in 2016, who was the center of her world.
April is survived by her husband, James Haarbauer; her son, Chance; her parents, Daryl and Shawn; and her two brothers, Jon and David. She leaves behind a community of friends who will forever miss her honesty, her laugh, and her unwavering support.
April's life will be honored and celebrated privately by her family and friends. Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hendricks County. All are encouraged to keep April's loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of loss.
