Wayne A. Jones, 88 of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully, January 13, 2024 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born March 7, 1935 to Harold and Lillian Jones, he is the youngest of eight children. He was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN until the family moved to Lewis, IN when he was a high school freshman. It was at Hymera High School where he met the love of his life, Wanda Pullum. They married in 1955 and moved to Kansas. There they started a family and a few years later returned to Indianapolis where they raised their family consisting of four children: Kim Vanlandingham, Keith Jones (Georgette deceased), David Jones (Susan) and Greg Jones. Wayne is survived by two siblings Audrey Taylor and Robert Jones.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He transferred these same craftsman skills into a well-established career as an airline mechanic, retiring from service with USAir in the late 1990’s.
Wayne enjoyed designing, building, and flying RC airplanes and was an active member of the Black Sheep Squadron Model RC Club in Danville, IN. Over the years he won several awards for his designs, including his scale model of the Wedell-Williams 44 air race plane, “The Gilmore Special”, flown by Roscoe Tower. He and his son, David, have attended several regional meets in order to qualify for the Masters Competition.
In over 65 years of marriage, Wayne and Wanda enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. Wayne especially loved spending time with his grandchildren - Mike, Candace, Bree, Jared, Ryan and Ashley, and great-grandchildren - Hunter, Jesse, Jackson, Addie, Benjamin (deceased), Aidan, Parker, Rose, Kayla and Ethan.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrier Project.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, January 18, 2024, in the Eric MD Bell Funeral Home, where friends are invited to gather from 12 pm until the time of the funeral. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Brownsburg Cemetery, Brownsburg, Indiana.
